My thesis was published in the Journal of Athletic Training in 2019: Risk Factors for Initial and Subsequent Core or Lower Extremity Sprain or Strain Among Collegiate Football Players that was able to identify Internal “risk factors” that when a certain criterion was met, predisposed an athlete to injury 10-fold compared to those who didn’t. Life is not about the number of steps, but how and why you take them. It isn’t something that is controlled and altered but a gift we are given. Injuries are inevitable and effects people on more than just a physical level. It’s complex, involving external factors, mind, and spirit. To make a difference, therapists must be able to encompass the patient entirely. Life is about more than achieving goals; it’s about living and learning. I was a former college athlete and still strive to be active (currently training for another marathon and still an avid snowboarder, soccer player, lifter, and rock climber) so I know how hard the process can be injured or healthy. I have worked with many types of people of all ability levels and realize the patience, creativity, and support that it can entail. I care about my clients with my whole heart in hopes that they can get one step closer to their goals.
